AQUOR /Groundwater agreement
It was conceived as a demonstration activity to foster a reversal of the current trend of groundwater overexploitation and to increase the hydro-geological recharge rate of aquifers. The purpose is to restore the groundwater balance in the Vicenza Upper Plain and to ensure the sustainable use of this resource by current and future generations.
The initiative is based on the active involvement of stakeholders and it aspires to consolidate a shared commitment to the quantitative protection of the upper Vicenza’s plain, this is one of the most important groundwater reservoirs in Europe.
The general objective is developing an adaptive strategy to the climate changes for the sustainable governance of the upper Vicenza’s plain groundwater resources. As an answer to the current climate changes, acknowledged by the international scientific community and proved on a regional level by many scientific evidences, the project aims at favouring the rebalance of the upper Vicenza’s plain water budget, rationalizing the water draw and favouring the natural and anthropic infiltration processes.
